My Story
The road to Duarte
When I first started in financial services, I quickly saw a recurring theme: retirement is one of the few financial decisions that doesn't offer a do-over. Once someone claims Social Security, rolls over a 401(k), or leaves a plan sponsor, those choices are often set in stone. That realization deeply resonated with me and became the driving force behind my work: helping people make those big, irreversible decisions with clarity and confidence, using a proven process instead of guesswork. Over my 24 years in this field, I also noticed how often retirement planning gets broken into disconnected pieces. An individual might approach Medicare without a solid income plan, or a retiree might take Social Security benefits without fully understanding the long-term trade-offs. I built Foothill Financial & Insurance Services, my agency here in Duarte, CA, specifically to bridge those gaps. My goal is to connect all the dots, ensuring your various financial accounts and decisions work together as one cohesive strategy. My approach is centered around income planning, not just accumulating assets. As a Retirement Income Certified Professional (RICP®), I focus on how your portfolio can reliably produce income for as long as you need it. This means carefully sequencing withdrawals, managing tax brackets, and thoughtfully incorporating tax-deferred annuities where they strengthen your overall plan. I work with individuals nearing or in retirement, including FERS/CSRS employees, those navigating required minimum distributions (RMDs), and anyone needing help with Social Security claiming strategies or Medicare-related income decisions like IRMAA. I'm also a (CPFA®), bringing that disciplined perspective to my work. When you work with me, you can expect a discovery-first process. I believe in understanding your complete financial picture before I ever make a recommendation. This leads to clear, documented decisions – a written plan you can easily follow and revisit as your life circumstances or market conditions change. I also believe in ongoing review, not just a one-time transaction. Retirement plans are dynamic, and I build in regular check-ins to ensure your strategy remains aligned with your goals. Having lived in this area for 58 years, I'm deeply rooted in the community, serving clients from Monrovia to Pasadena, Glendora, and beyond. I offer straight talk, explaining trade-offs in plain language, and I'll never recommend something I can't justify in writing. Reaching out is just the first step. Let's have a conversation about your retirement goals and see if my approach is the right fit for you. My NPN is 0007379206.
Why I Do This
Why I love this work
Retirement is one of the few financial decisions that isn't reversible — once someone claims Social Security, rolls over a 401(k), or leaves a plan sponsor role, there usually isn't a do-over. That's what drew me to this work: helping people get the big, irreversible decisions right the first time, using a process instead of guesswork.
I also saw how often retirement planning gets split into disconnected pieces — an individual approaching Medicare without a income plan, a retiree taking Social Security without weighing the long-term tradeoffs. I built my practice to close those gaps.
How I Work
What it's like to work with me
I work with several groups of clients, each with a different need:
Individuals approaching or in retirement — wether a FERS/CSRS employee, people navigating annuity rollovers, required minimum distributions (RMDs), and Social Security claiming strategy, who want a clear income plan rather than a collection of separate accounts.
Medicare-adjacent clients — individuals working through IRMAA and income-related decisions where retirement income planning and Medicare timing intersect.
In each case, I start with discovery — understanding the full picture before recommending anything — and build a plan around it rather than leading with a product.
What you can expect
A discovery-first process. I ask before I recommend. For individuals, it means understanding your full income picture before any product conversation
Clear, documented decisions. That means a written plan you can follow and revisit as circumstances change.
Ongoing review, not a one-time transaction. Retirement plans need to be revisited as rules, markets, and life circumstances change. I build in regular check-ins rather than disappearing after the initial recommendation.
Straight talk. I explain tradeoffs in plain language and won't recommend something I can't justify in writing.
